The journey to enlightenment is not easy. It is not a trip to pick some flowers feeling nice and smooth while closing your eyes dreamingly. The real thing is a war with the impurities and evils inside your mind. Your mind must be awaken with bravery, mindfulness, and consciousness.
If you wonder why I often use many words about warfare, try recalling the time we were fighting the darkness within ourselves, with envy, anger, greed. When we are in a tug of war between doing the right thing and going with the temptation, resisting our own weaknesses…isn’t it an internal war? And if we lose, how much karma will we accumulate this time although there’s no bloodshed? The karma can lasts several lifetimes, sometime for as long as the period before another Buddha comes to the world. How many more births and deaths will you have to go through?
Buddha thus said a hundred victories don’t make a great warlord. It’s the man who can conquer himself that can be called as such. A victory with a weapon is only in this lifetime, but if he overcomes the impurities in his mind, it is an eternal victory.

“ยอดขุนพล”
อาจารย์อัจฉราวดี วงศ์สกล
การเดินทางมุ่งสู่นิพพาน ไม่ใช่การเดินทางไปเก็บดอกไม้ ที่จะมีแต่ความราบรื่นสวยหรูนั่งภาวนาหลับตาพริ้ม ของจริงมันคือการออกศึกสงครามสู้กับกิเลสชั่วร้ายที่ครอบงำจิตใจ จิตใจต้ององอาจ ตื่นรู้ มีสติรู้ชัดอยู่ทุกเมื่อ
หากใครสงสัยว่า ทำไมอาจารย์จึงใช้คำเกี่ยวกับศึกสงครามเสมอ ก็จงนึกย้อนคิดดูว่า เวลาที่เราต้องสู้กับอำนาจมืดในใจ สู้กับความริษยา สู้พลังความโกรธ ความโลภ ฉุดยื้อระหว่างการทำผิดศีลกับการรักษาศีล สู้กับใจที่อ่อนแอ….นี่คือสงครามในใจหรือไม่ และหากเราแพ้สงครามนี้ แม้ไม่มีเลือดสาดให้เห็น แต่จิตนี้จะสะสมกรรมมากมายเพียงใด ไม่ใช่แค่กรรมในภพนี้ แต่กินเวลาไปอีกยาวนานหลายภพชาติ บางคนต้องเกิดมาใช้กรรมกันข้ามพุทธันดร ต้องก่อกำเนิดเพื่อไปเป็นศพอีกกี่ภพกี่ชาติ
พระพุทธองค์จึงตรัสว่า แม้จะรบชนะสงครามสักร้อยครั้ง ก็ไม่ชื่อว่าเป็นยอดขุนพล แต่ผู้ที่ชนะใจตนต่างหากคือยอดขุนพล เพราะการชนะสงครามด้วยศาสตรา มันชนะแค่ชั่วเวลาหนึ่งในภพนี้ แต่หากชนะกิเลสในใจตน นี่คือชัยชนะชั่วอนันตกาล
