Question : Dear Master, I have a question about what kind of karma causes homosexuality. In this case, can homosexual people be enlightened?

Answer : There are many kinds of karma, causing homosexuality, but the most severe karma is flirting. Having an affair with other’s spouse results to the rebirth as homosexual person, who will never have 100% successful love. Even having love, it will be discouraged and insulted by society and others because having violated the third precept hurt other’s feeling. This karma results in the same hurtful feeling.

No matter who they are; female, male, or homosexual, if their minds cannot withdraw from sensual desire, it’s impossible for them to reach Arahant level. The homosexual people have more difficult time to withdraw sensual desire than normal genders. The homosexuality’s karma formation is attached to sensual desire stronger than the normal gender because it continuously accumulates lots of uncomfortable and hurtful feeling, which makes mind attachment even more powerful.

From the ten Fetters that hold creatures’ minds in the round of rebirth, letting go of the sensual desire means not only body touch, but also mental desire. The persons without the ten Fetters will not have any worldly desire. Having appreciation in the mind is fine since it is normal feeling such as giving complement that a person is nice and liking him, but not wanting to be close to him like a loved one.

The word “sensual passion” covers all whatever gender the person is. The conventional concept of body is just a place for mind to stay. Genuine original mind does not have any gender. An enlightened person has ambiguous action. If considering only the action, we will not know whether the person is male or female. If the enlightened person is female, she will have strong mind, like a male. If the enlightened person is male, he will be gentle and can cry, like a female. His or her behavior follows the culture, he or she dresses according to the gender so there’s no blame and criticism from society.

In conclusion, the homosexual people who expect to be enlightened do not have to worry about gender but should set the target that they will diligently meditate to remove sensual passion up to affection level. This is more important.

Other karma causing homosexuality is from the desired mind, but there was not enough good deed to get the desired body. So the person has to recompense the former deed in this life by becoming homosexual.

คำถาม : กราบเรียนอาจารย์ที่เคารพอย่างสูง กระผมมีข้อสงสัยในเรื่องการเกิดเป็นเพศที่สามว่าเกิดจากกรรมใด และถ้าเป็นเช่นนี้ จะสามารถบรรลุธรรมได้หรือไม่

อาจารย์ตอบ : กรรมที่ทำให้เกิดเป็นเพศที่สามมีหลายสาเหตุ แต่เหตุแห่งกรรมที่มีน้ำหนักมากที่สุดคือความเจ้าชู้ กรรมผิดลูกเมียผู้อื่นกระแสกรรมจึงทำให้เกิดเป็นเพศที่สาม ที่ส่งผลให้ไม่มีวันสมปรารถนาในความรักได้อย่างร้อยเปอร์เซ็นต์ แม้จะมีความรักก็ต้องถูกกีดกัน ถูกดูแคลนจากสังคมและคนอื่น ๆ เพราะศีลข้อสามเป็นการทำให้จิตใจของผู้อื่นมอดไหม้ กรรมจึงส่งผลให้ใจต้องขมไหม้ในลักษณะเดียวกัน

ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเพศหญิง ชาย หรือเพศที่สาม จะบรรลุธรรมขั้นอรหันต์ไม่ได้ หากยังไม่ถอนจิตออกจากความเสน่หาทางกามารมณ์ เพียงแต่เพศที่สามจะถอนความเสน่หาในกามยากกว่าผู้ปฏิบัติที่เพศไม่เบี่ยงเบน รากสังขารที่ยึดอารมณ์กามมีความแกร่งกว่าผู้ที่มีเพศตรงตัว เพราะสะสมความอึดอัดและความขมใจเอาไว้มากอย่างต่อเนื่อง ก็ยิ่งไปเพิ่มพลังความยึดมั่นในจิตใจ

ในสังโยชน์หรือเครื่องผูกจิตที่มัดสัตว์ไว้ในภพ ต้องละกามราคะสังโยชน์ออกให้ได้ คือสิ้นเสน่หาในกามราคะทุกรูปแบบ มิได้หมายถึงการมีสัมผัสทางกายอย่างเดียว แต่เป็นการละเสน่หาทางใจด้วย ผู้ที่ละได้จะไม่มีอารมณ์เสน่หาทางโลกีย์อีก แต่ความชื่นชมนั้นมีได้เพราะเป็นความรู้สึกปกติของจิต เช่น ชื่นชมว่าคนนี้เขาปฏิบัติตัวดีก็รู้สึกชอบ เป็นต้น แต่ไม่ได้คิดอยากอยู่ใกล้แบบชู้สาว

ด้วยคำว่ากามราคะก็คลุมหมดไม่ว่าบุคคลจะจัดอยู่ในเพศใดก็ตาม สมมติบัญญัติ กายสังขารเป็นเพียงสถานีให้จิตอยู่อาศัยจิตที่แท้จริงไม่มีเพศ ผู้ที่บรรลุธรรมแล้วจะมีการแสดงออกที่ก้ำกึ่งหากดูแต่การกระทำจะไม่รู้ว่าหญิงหรือชาย ท่านที่เป็นหญิงก็จะมีจิตใจเข้มแข็งแกร่งเหมือนชาย ท่านที่ครองกายในเพศชายก็อ่อนโยนร้องไห้ได้แบบผู้หญิง เพียงแต่การแสดงออกตามจารีตประเพณี การแต่งกายต้องเป็นไปตามเพศเพื่อไม่ให้เป็นที่ติเตียนและกังขาต่อสังคม

สรุป สำหรับผู้หมายหลุดพ้นในเพศที่สาม ไม่ต้องไปกังวลเรื่องเพศ แต่ให้วางเป้าหมายไว้ว่า เราจะพากเพียรปฏิบัติเพื่อละอารมณ์พอใจในกามราคะแม้ในระดับการพึงใจทางเสน่หาได้อย่างไร นี่สำคัญกว่า

ส่วนกรรมบางอย่างที่ทำให้เกิดเป็นเพศที่สาม ก็มาจากการตั้งจิตอธิษฐาน ไปอธิษฐานเอง แต่บุพกรรมไม่มีพลังพอให้ได้กายสังขารที่ปรารถนา ต้องมาใช้กรรมก่อนในเพศนี้ ก็เลยกลายเป็นเพศที่สามไปก็มี
